Fondation Steamtrain Goes Borsele USATC 7989 (Fondation Steamtrain Goes Borsele NS 2000)

"An American, crosses the Ocean for the 3rd time! / Back in Europe!"

And I once again had a photo scoop!

During the first Easter Day, Sunday 1, April 2018, the Museum track season started at the SGB, and also on this day the Museum grounds / workshop, station for the 2018 season officially opened to the public, it was also the first day that the beautiful diesel loc USATC 7989 "Whitcomb" (NS 2000) was on display, but not yet on the Museum grounds!

Saturday 31.03.2018 the invited guests and donors of the "NS 2000 project" already had the first acquaintance, the loc was in Goes on the SGB Museum grounds with an American flag for it ......

The USATC 7989, gives a long history behind it.
The locomotive has built in 1943 Whitcomb Locomotive Works in America and came during World War II (just like 601-619 later NS 2000-2018, plus to Italy / Europe due to the promotion of the American army and during liberation in 1946.

In the Netherlands they were used for some years at NS series 2000, (1958-1960), then field service and unfortunately scrapped.

Meanwhile there was from SGB the idea to get another Whitcomp locomotive to the Netherlands, there was of course a lot of criticism, the choice fell on the USATC 7989 last owner Lehigh Cement, this was by a money collection action in the end by cargo ship . 3 weeks on 7. November, 2017 at the port in Antwerp, and later by truck transport to Goes.

The diesel locomotive will be a part during Liberation in the Netherlands / Liberation Festival in the year 2020, gets the color during transport to France in WW II, after 2020 one will try to get the locomotive back on track, and the locomotive will receive the NS house colors. ..
