MGB 53 (MGB Deh44I)

The Schöllenen gorge always was a first class obstacle for building paths trough it. The legend says that the first bridge passing the gorge was built by the Devil himself. Inauguration of the modern electric rack railway was not until July 11th 1917 and lasted only from spring to fall. It took another 6 years to build additional snow sheds to allow a year round traffic. Currently the line is operated by the Deh 4/4 I and Deh 4/4 II units. Here we see Deh 4/4 I 53 with train R620 passing the devils bridge (left) and the Lehnenbridge before entering the Brückwaldboden tunnel.
